It is an egg, and Juliet is the mum! 😀
(I am now cringing and already apologising to all and sundry for this terrible rework of the Bard’s beautiful lines!)
Just a very quick post.
Since we brought our new girls home almost two weeks ago, we have had only a small clutch of eggs. Not only are the eggs smaller in number (but it is early days!) they are also smaller in size—on average just under 50 grams each.
The loveliest thing, though, is that Juliet’s eggs are small and round(ish) and gorgeously speckled!
I just had to share 🙂
I have been reading a lot about chicken husbandry. I really would like to have a few chickens and 2 turkeys. I am trying to learn as much as I can right now. I am trying to decide if we are up to this as well. I read somewhere out there in cyberspace that young chickens lay smaller eggs than their older counter parts. It makes sense but I never thought about why some eggs are small and others are large….
I am glad the chickens are doing so well.
